GETTING ENTREPRENEURIAL: Northern has had two events to foster the entrepreneurial spirit in students. The first was the Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour on Oct. 30. The tour (http://www.extremetour.org) brings America’s top young entrepreneurs to spread the entrepreneurial mindset to their peers at a grassroots level at colleges nationwide. The speakers were all young men and women who found success as entrepreneurs before they turned 25 years old. About 100 NMU students attend the Extreme Tour sessions. The other event was the New Business Venture Competition, sponsored by the College of Business. About 30 students/student teams turned in their “intent to compete” executive summaries by the Nov. 1 deadline. That is a great response for this first-time competition. The NMU entrepreneurs will now fully develop their proposals from which three will be selected to present to our community judges in April. The finalists will present to the judges on Friday, April 25, where $10,000 in prizes will be awarded.
